Preventative Medicine

Today I want to say a bit on preventative medicine. At this moment I am doing a detox. This particular detox will last around 10 days total. It consist of eating raw food and fresh squeezed juices, teas, etc. In other words, it’s really not that much of an inconvenience because I still get to eat as much as I want.

It never ceases to amaze me just how often I hear that this type of preventative medicine is way to invasive in daily life, that people just don’t want to take the time. It always makes me laugh out loud, usually right in front of the people who are speaking. Every single time I ask the same question; is it less invasive for a doctor to cut your chest open and jump start your heart? Hmmm, is it less invasive to try and rebuild your body after a stroke? Is it less invasive if you have to get chemo because you have bowel cancer? Let’s face it; these questions can go all day.

The problem lies in the fact that no one thinks it can happen to them. They go along with their lives blissfully unaware that their body is in self destruct mode and they are in the pilot seat.

So many times I have heard that a cleanse is not only a pain in the ass but it is way too costly. Hmmm, let’s think about this one for a minute. Heart surgery…$400,000. Ok, that is extreme. Burst appendix…$10-20,000. Now ask yourself just how it sounds to spend a little bit of money on exercise and eating right? Of course these are extreme examples but the same type of thing happens every day. Have you ever spoken something similar to this? “5 dollars for a juice! I’m not paying that!” Check yourself the next time you are in the market. Watch how you react to the price of vegetables, fruit, etc. Then ask yourself if you have the same problem spending that same 5 dollars on a beer when you are with friends.

The point is that it is all relative. It is all in your perception. And preventative medicine is so easy, so fast, it is foolish not to spend the time investing in the person you want to stay alive as long as possible, you!

Already I have friends who are only in their 30s that have health problems, big and small, and are slowing down, being less active. This is INSANE! 30 is not old. 40 is not old. 50 is not old. 60 is not old. I personally know people who are in their 70s who are still skiing, hiking the Himalayas, and running.

Invest in yourself. Spend the time now so that you can play with your children, your grandchildren, and eve your great grandchildren.
